  • Asymmetries in m. tone or movement (stiff or floppy); does not move all extremities equally well, head position not variable
  • inconsistent visual responses; does not focus on caregivers face or attend to voices
  • challenging feeding behaviors (gag, choke, weak suck, can’t latch onto breast or bottle); feeding not easily initiated, no strong, sustained sucking, feeding takes longer than 20-30 minutes, weight gain not appropriate or consistent

  • no consistency in sleep-wake cycles as compared to typical emerging consistency in sleep-wake cycles; not able to sleep 3-4 hours at a time or stay awake for 1+ hours
  • difficult feeding, noisy sucking, excessive jaw movement, weak lip seal on nipple, excessive milk/formula leakage, lethargic baby b/c not getting enough milk, does not wake up for feeds; feeding times at unpredictable intervals, does not sequence 2+ sucks from breast/bottle before pausing to breathe, does not consume 2-6 oz per feeding with 6+ feedings per day, no steady weight gain
