Covalent Bonding Flashcards
1
Q
Covalent bonds can form between:
A
A small number of atoms to form small molecules such as carbon dioxide. A large number of atoms to form giant molecules, such as plastics. An infinite number atoms to form giant lattices such as graphite, diamond.
2
Q
Why are groups 1,2 and 8 not relevant in covalent bonding?
A
Groups 1 and 2 are metals and don’t form covalent bonds. Element in group 8 have a stable valence shell.
3
Q
How many bonds can fluorine form?
A
One. F-F
4
Q
