Q

How are covalent bonds formed

A

When a non metal element reacts with another non metal element. A covalent bond is when electrons are shared between atoms.

Q

Why are simple covalent structures usually gases or liquids or solids with low melting/boiling points?

A

Simple covalent structures consist of molecules which are held together one covalent bonds which cannot be broken, however, these molecules are held together by weak intermolecular forces which can be overcome with little energy. Because these weak intermolecular forces are easy to overcome, this is why simple covalent structures are usually gases or liquids.
