- innequalit in DM is because of patriachy as dm around men is ingrained in society, also because of gender role socialisation

A personal life perspective of money
focuses on the meaning couples give to money control - just because it may look unequal if one person in the relationship controls the money this may not be the case
SMART - found that some gay and lesbain couples didnt care who controlled the money - not an inequality - greater freedom in some same sex couples because of no historical backgrounds

Is too far spread - womens aid fed - DV accounts for 1/4 too 1/6 of all recorded violent crime
DV doesnt occur randomly - men go agaisnt women, could be result of challenge in autority

may be reluctant to investigate it (police)
- family private sphere, family is a good thing so neglect the bad side, individuals are free agents - women can leave the relationships
