Number of divorces doubled from 1961 to 69 than doubled again by 72 and Peaked in 93 at 165k decreased to 118k in 2012 meaning that approximately 40% of marriages will end in divorce

Equalise in the grounds - 1923 saw increase in divorce by women
widening the ground - 1971 doubled rate of divorce overnight as it was easier to obtain
Legal aid for divorce - 1949 made divorce cheaper
Due to divorce being easier, desertion, legal separation and empty shell marriage have all become less popular
