Counterstrain Flashcards
8 steps of counterstrain
- Diagnose SD
- Find TP
- Est pain scale
- wrap around TP while monitoring
- reduce pain by 70%
- Maintain position for 90 sec
- Slowly and passively return pt to neutral
- Reasses SD
AC1 Mandible location and Tx
posterior surface ascending ramus; pt supine, SARA
AC1 TP location and Tx
C1 TP midway between ramus of mandible and mastoid process; pt supine, saRA
AC2-6 location and Tx
anterior TP of corresponding vertebrae; pt supine, FSARA
AC7 location and tx
posterosuperior of proximal clavicle where SCM inserts; F STRA
AC8 location and tx
clavicular insertion of SCM near sternal notch; FSARA
AT1 location and tx
midline on suprasternal notch; cervical and thoracic flexion
AT2 location and tx
midline on manubrium at sternal angle; cervical and thoracic flexion
AT3 location and tx
midline at level of costal cartilage related to vertebra; cervical and thoracic flexion
AT4-AT6 location and tx
midline at level of costal cartilage related to vertebra; cervical and thoracic flexion
AT7 location and tx
midline or lateral 1/4 between xiphoid and umbilicus; FSTRA
AT 8 location and tx
halfway between xiphoid and umbilicus; FSTRA
AT 9 location and tx
3/4 xiphoid to umbilicus; FSTRA
AT10 location and tx
1/4 umbilicus to pubic symphysis; FSTRA (flex knees and hips, pelvis and lower torso rotate towards, upper segment rotates away, side bend toward TP)
AT 11 location and tx
halfway between umbilicus and pubic symphysis; FSTRA (flex knees and hips, pelvis and lower torso rotate towards, upper segment rotate away, side bend towards)
AT12 location and tx
midaxillary line on superoanterior surface of iliac crest; FSTRA (flex knees and hips, pelvis and lower torso rotate towards, upper segment rotates away, side bend towards)
Anterior rib TPs are indicative of what SD
depressed rib
Posterior rib TPs are indicative of what SD
elevated rib
AR1 location and Tx
inferior to clavicle on rib 1, lateral to manubrium, FSTRT
AR2 location and tx
1.5 in lateral to manubrium on rib 2 below mid-clavicular line; FSTRT
AR 3-6 location and tx
anterior axillary line ribs 3-6; FSTRT - pt seated with arm of unaffected side on docs knee
PR 1 location and tx
posterior margin of rib head beneath trap; ESART
PR 2 location and tx
superior surface angles of ribs at medial border of scapula, lateral to midline; FSARA
PR3-6 location and tx
superior surface of angles of ribs at medial scapula; FSARA
What TP should be treated first if there is equal intensity?
most proximal or midline
What TP should be treated if there is a thoracic TP and rib TP?
thoracic
Tx of maverick point differs how?
requires lengthening of tissues around TP
Definition of rotation
refers to movement of lumbar vertebrae in relation to TP, think of torso movement
