what is counter-urbanisation?
A
counter-urbanisation is the main movement in HICs. it is the movement from large urban areas to rural areas and has taken place over the last 50 years.

why is counter-urbanisation taking place?
A
- urban areas have a lot of crime and pollution
- increased car ownership therefore people are able to live further from work
and road networks have been improved - increase in the number of people working from home due to technology e.g. SKYPE
- ageing population many want to retire in the countryside
- business parks on the edge of the city, people do not want to go into the city centre for work and can live in rural areas nearby

- house prices increase due to a growing demand so many locals can no longer live there, this especially affects young first time buyers
