A
acute onset, ratio of PaO2/FIO2 <200, bilateral infiltrates on CXR, pulmonary artery wedge pressure <18mmHg, no evidence of left atrial HTN

distinguish uncomplicated pneumonia vs pneumonia complicated with ARDS?
A
Uncomplicated: systemic & pulm inflammation (fever, chills, fatigue, sputum, pleuritic chest pain), hypoxia should respond to O2 administration
Complicated with ARDS: hypoxia does not correct with O2 administration
