Q

motion

A

we live in a world with moving things
movements are caused by movers
something must have started the movement or else there is an infinite regress
SO there must be a first mover, itself unmoved and that is God.

Q

Causation

A

Somethings are caused
The thing that is caused must be caused by something else because nothing causes itself
There cant be an infinite regress of causes
God started the chai of causation

Q

Contingent

A

We cant have a world where everything is contingent because then by definition everything would have easily never existed.
An infinite regress is therefore impossible
SO there must be one necessary thing which is God

Q

Degrees

A

properties come in degrees
In order for there to be degrees of perfection, there must be something perfect against which everything else is measured
Therefore God is the pinnacle of perfection

EVALUATION

A
  • Aquinas argument doesn’t prove the existence of a sentient God.
  • self-defeating with motion and causation
