How does Pit and Crevice corrosion work
A
Concentration cells are caused due to the difference in oxygen levels at the surface of crack vs deep in. This is esp common on aircraft as panels are riveted together rather than welded, creating gaps.

Whats stress corrosion cracking (SCC)
A
Through stresses applied onto a material in specific environments, it causes pits and crevices to form. The cracks then become anodic at the tips, creating a difference in charge and causing corrosion.
