Aircraft instrutments Flashcards
Pitot tube
It is a tube placed pointing towards the direction of travel with a hole in the middle to allow for the incoming airflow to be caught. Only works under supersonic speeds
Airspeed indicator
A pitot tube connects to a diaphragm which is located inside a sealed compartment of static pressure. The difference in pressure of the pitot tube will change the size of the diaphragm of which is connected to gears that are of a specific formula, calculating the speed.
Altimeter
A static diaphragm that is sealed and of a constant pressure is left inside a compartment that is connected to a static tube. The changing pressure from the aircraft travelling at different altitudes change the size of the diaphragm which connects to a gear system that displays the altitude.
Static tube
A tube place on the side of a aircraft perpendicular to the direction of travel. This takes in the air pressure of the current altitude without any interferences.
