Correlations Flashcards
What is a correlation?
An association between 2 continuous variables
What are the strengths of correlations?
Relatively quick and economical
Provide precise and quantifiable measures of how two variables are related
Less time consuming than experiments
Used as a starting point to assess patterns
What are the weaknesses of correlations?
Cannot establish cause and effect
Can be misused or misinterpreted
Another untested variable may be causing the relationship we are interested in (intervening variable)
