1
Q

Q

What will a correlation show?

A
  • It will show 1 of 3 things:
    1) Positive correlation (one increases so does the other)

2) Negative correlation (one increases and other decreases)

3) No correlation

Q

What is the difference between correctional analysis and exp?

A
  • Exp has the investigator deliberately change the IV to observe the effect on the DV
  • C.A variables are imply measured and no changes are made
  • Caffeine and a highhanded anxiety

Q

How do we represent correlation analyses’?

A
  • A scattergraph
  • Shows the correlation between 2 sets of data (co-variables) by plotting dots to represent scores
  • Statistical tests are used to calculate the correlation
  • A stat test will have a value for +1 (perfect positive) & -1 (perfect negative)

Q

What is a strength of correlation analysis?

A

Useful exploratory tools for research
- Can asses strength and direction of a relationship and provide precise quantifiable measures of how 2 variables are related
- Correlations are often used as starting points to asses possible patterns between variables before doing actual research

Q

What is a weakness of correlational analysis

A

Cant account for cause and effect
- This type of analysis can only illustrate that variables are related but cant explain
- We couldn’t say that drinking more caffeine makes you more anxious, it could be if your more anxious you could drink more caffeine
Est. direction is an issue
