Coronary circulation Flashcards
What does the myocardium require a lot of to ‘beat’?
Oxygen and nutrients
Where does capillary exchange take place within the heart?
The myocardium
What is the purpose of the coronary artery?
Supplies oxygenated blood from the heart
What do the cardiac veins do?
Return de-oxygenated blood back to the heart and into the pulmonary circulation route
How many main large coronary arteries are there?
2
What is the purpose of the main large coronary arteries?
Supply blood back to the heart
Describe the position of the two main large coronary arteries?
Branch off of the aorta, just above the semi lunar valve
The primary purpose of the right coronary artery?
Primarily supplies the right side of the heart with the oxygen and nutrients needed
The right coronary artery has 2 branches, name them…
The marginal artery
The posterior inter-ventricular artery
The primary purpose of the left coronary artery?
Supply the left side of the heart with the oxygen and nutrients needed
The left coronary artery has 2 branches, name them…
The left anterior descending branch (LAD)
The circumflex branch
Both branches are still classes coronary arteries
Purpose of cardiac veins?
Carry de-oxygenated blood away from the myocardium
How is the cardiac venus system similar to the coronary arteries?
Similarly branches
Lies alongside them
The cardiac venus system is composed of two parts…
Left and Right
What does the left cardiac venus system do?
Receive de-oxygenated blood from most of the superficial veins of the heart
