1. mix reagents and swirl in conical flask
2. add 6g of anhydrous calcium chloride
3. add product to a separating funnel and remove aqueous layer
4. wash with 20 ml of sodium hydrogen carbonate solution, releasing pressure
5. run off aqueous layer and repeat wash step
6. once product has been purified, empty into clean flash and add anhydrous sodium sulphate
7. move product to pear shaped flask and carefully distil over a water bath. Collect product at 50 to 52 degrees
