CP13 Method
A
- Place ice in funnel and allow ice to warm up to 0°
- Determine mass of empty and dry beaker
- Put approximately 100cm³ of water in beaker and determine mass of beaker with water. Measure temp of water
- Add 20g of ice at 0°. Stir till ice melts
- Record lowest temp reached by ice and water mixture. Occurs when all ice melts
- Determine mass of the beaker; plus ice and water

- Ensure mass balance is 0 when empty

- Wipe up any spillages

Why do you need to crush ice in funnel?
A
So water escapes the funnel; only crushed ice will be put into water

Assess use of temperature sensor and data logger over thermometer.
A
- Prevents parallax error in measuring temp
- Dataloggers more useful when data varies over a short period of time
- Dataloggers useful when a number of quantities are being measure simultaneously
- Takes longer for thermometer to respond than sensors
