What is health promotion?
The process of enabling people to increase control over their health and its determinants, and therefore improve their health.

Aims to reduce risk behaviours that contribute to poor health.
Examples:
Quit smoking campaigns - encourage to stop smoking
Road safety campaigns - challenge attitudes towards unsafe driving
What are some examples of the 3 Preventative medical approaches to promote health?
Primary prevention - Childhood immunisation programs
Secondary prevention (for people at higher risk) - Bowel (colorectal) cancer kits for people over 50
Tertiary prevention (stops a disease from recurring) - regular check ups and monitoring and medications to manage high blood pressure for heart attack.
Where does public health approaches to promoting health occur and why is it more effective.
It occurs in schools and workplaces and is more effective as it involves a multi-faceted approach to health.
What is the ottawa charter?
A framework for health promotion which was a product of the first international conference on health promotion in 1986.
