What is the cause of COPD?
Smoking, pollution, occupational dust, age
What is COPD?
Non reversible airflow limitation due to narrowing of airways, increased no. of goblet cells, pulmonary hypertension and enlargement of mucus glands
How does the patient present if COPD is suspected?
Cough, SOB, Barrel Chest, Sputum Production, Hyperresonance on percussion, coarse crackles, wheezing on auscultation
How is COPD investigated?
Spirometry, pulse oximetry, ABG, CXR, FBC, ECG, PFT
What is the treatment for COPD?
Inhaled Salbutamol, corticosteroid, inhaled corticosteroids, supplemental oxygen, SMOKING CESSSATION, pulmonary rehabilitation
What are the complications of COPD?
Cor Pulmonale, Recurrent Pneumonia, Depression, Resp Failure, Pneumothorax
