Contamination
Used to describe foreign body in the coal e.g. rags, plastic, steel, timber etc.
Diverter Chutes
Chutes located at the head of conveyors that can selectively divert coal to either one of two conveyors.
Drive head
All machinery and structures associated with providing the mechanical drive to move the conveyor belt.
Energise
Connect electrical power to a particular system.
Fines
Small coal particles
Grizzly
A coarse metal grid at the top of chutes, etc designed to filter out large contaminants, rags, etc.
GTU
Gravity take-up unit. A device that uses a suspended weight to maintain tension in the conveyor belt.
Head
The end of the conveyor that coal is transported to (i.e., the end the coal drops

Chutes located at the head of conveyors, used to transfer coal to the next conveyor in the system.
Isolate
Disconnect all electrical power supplies to a particular system.
Lagging
Textured surface applied to drive pulleys (and sometimes other pulleys), to increase friction and traction.
Sequencing
The order in which individual conveyors in a series are started or stopped.
Tail
The end of the conveyor belt farthest from the head.
Through loading
Transfer of coal from rail receival directly to the surge bins. Through loaded coal is not stockpiled.
