Q

What is energy ducking, and how do you get around it?

Q

How do you ignite interest with a story gap? What is it?

A

A story gap is when you build interest in a story by hinting at how it ends without spoiling the punchline. You tee up the story by giving a hint of the ending.

Q

How to avoid default boring questions?

A

Ask something that the other person will be excited to answer. For example: you can ask fun hypotheticals. Think: If you were the prime minister, what would you do?

Q

How can you show you are an active listener?

A

You mirror the other person. This means you repeat a pattern of behaviour of the person you are talking to. You can also listen to laugh (but laughing when you do find something funny). Make others feel smart and/or funny.

Q

What is wrong with giving bland one to five word answers? How do you avoid this?

A

They put all the pressure on the other person to carry conversation. Avoid this by sharing enough to make conversation easy for the other person, but also create space for them to speak as well.
