Discipline and Grievance: The Statutory Procedures and Code of Practice
The statutory procedure involves the following three steps:
- A statement in writing of what it is the employee is alleged to have done.
- A meeting to discuss the situation.
- The right of appeal.

Key areas:
- Provision and maintenance of risk-free plant and systems of work.
- Ensuring the safety in use, handling, storage, and transport of articles and substances.
- Provision of information, training, instruction and supervision.
- Maintenance of a safe workplace.
- Provision of means of entry and exit.
- Provision of a safe working environment.
- Adequate facilities.

Mediation: With mediation an impartial third party facilitates discussion between the parties and
encourages them to reach a mutually satisfactory conclusion.
Conciliation: This can be used to settle a dispute before it gets to a tribunal hearing. It involves trying to
build a positive relationship between the disputing parties
