What are controlled drugs (4)
A
- a group of ‘Prescription Only Medicines.’
- They have additional restrictions that apply to their storage, production, supply and prescription.
- CDs are controlled because they are liable to abuse and misuse.
- CDs are classified into one of five Schedules.

What is the purpose of the CD schedules (6)
A
- determines the controls that are required
- determines additional prescription requirements
- determines what records needs to be kept with regards to obtaining and supplying CDs
- determines where they should be stored in the pharmacy.
- Some CDs must be stored in a locked cabinet which is often referred to as the CD cabinet.
- The RP on duty must keep the key to the CD cabinet with them at all times.
