control of heartbeat Flashcards
step 1-san
SAN initiates a wave of excitation(electrical impulses)
2:atrial systole
the wave spreads over the walls of the atria causing contraction
3:prevent
wave is prevented from spreading to ventricles by a thin layer of connective, non conductive tissue
4:avn
wave reaches atrioventricular node and the wave is delayed through the avn which allows the complete atrial contraction before ventricular contraction
5:ventricular contraction
wave of excitation travels down conductive tissue in septum/bundle of his, this reaches base of ventricles causing contraction
6:ventricular systole
wave travels through purkyne fibres up the side of ventricles
7:diastole
heart relaxes, electrical impulse is terminated as there is no conductive tissue
san
sino atrial node
area of right atrium that initiates wave of excitation
