Control And Cominication Flashcards
Stimuli
A change either external or internal that causes a reaction
Function of sensory neurones
Send info into the cns
Function of interneurones
Transmit info through the cns
Function of motor neurones
Take info from the cns to the pns to cause an effect
What different states do the messages go through when they pas the synapse
Electrical > chemical > electrical
What happens at the synapse
Electrical impulses move vesicles of neurotransmitters to the edge of the axon terminal. The neurotransmitters then defuse across the synapse gap and are picked up by specific receptors on the next neurones dendrites and are transferred back into an electrical impulse
Why is there a synapse
To give time for relevant information to be sorted from irrelevant
What is a reflex action
Rapid involuntary responses
What is a reflex arc
Where an interneurone makes an impulse reaction to save the body from harm by creating an involuntary reflex
Function of the cerebellum
Controls balance and coordination and well practiced skills
Cerebrum
Controls thought, reasoning, memory and emotions
Function of the medulla
Controls breathing and heart rate, subconscious problem solving of bodies problems
Definition of hormone
Chemical messengers
Pathway of hormones
Endocrine gland > blood stream > target organ
Function of hormones
To trigger a response ( lower blood sugar levels (insulin))
