What is a full time contract?
A contract in which someone works for a company full time ie. approx 35 hours per week/7 hours per day
What is a part-time contract?
A contract in which someone works for a company but not all week/all day. It could be for between 1-30 hours per week
What does freelance mean?
Someone works for themself (self-employed) and not for a company or organisation
What is a permanent contract?
One which continues indefinitely until the employer or employee chooses to end it
What is ‘casual’ work?
When people work for a company for a short time as and when they are needed.
What is a volunteer?
Someone who isn’t paid money for the work they do
What is a contract?
A legally binding agreement between two people/organisations which explains what will be done, when it will be done by and how much will be paid for it
What is tax?
Money which is paid to the government
What is national insurance?
Money which is paid to the government and is used to fund pensions, the health service and unemployment benefits
What does “income” mean?
Money which ‘comes in’ to a company or person
What is an audition?
When a band/artist play for someone in the hope of getting a job/record deal
What is merchandise?
Branded items which are sold eg mugs, posters, t-shirts
What is public liability insurance?
Insurance which will pay out if a person/company is sued eg if the staging falls down at a gig and the person who was injured sues the venue. If the venue have public liability insurance they will pay the fine on their behalf
Who is likely to need public liability insurance?
Venues, all employers, transport companies, anyone who runs a business
Permanent v causal
Permanent offers guaranteed work for a certain length of time & job security.
Casual is not secure as it varies according to the work on offer, but it does give flexibility and choice as to organising your time.
