Contractile cells Flashcards
how many types of muscles are there
3- skeletal, cardiac and smooth
where is Skeletal muscle and describe it
attached to bones (bicept, calf, thigh, diaphram)
features of skeletal muscle
fast, rapid and strong contraction, look strippy, have many nuclei, voluntarily contraction
features of cardiac muscle
heart muscle
striated
fast and strong contraction
have only one nuclei, involuntary,
features of smooth muscle
where found
involved in involuntary processes
present in blood vessels, gut, airway
single nuclei
not striated
slow contraction
compare 3 types of muscles
cardiac+ skeletal- striated, fast contraction, have troponin,
smooth- single nuclei, not striated, slow contraction,
draw and label skeletal muscle
sarcolema, muscle fibre, muscle fascicle
what part of brain activates muscle contraction and where does it send signal
sm activation is voluntary so its activated by Motor nerve
motor centre- motor nerve excited- spinal cord- muscle fibre contracts
How does a motor nerve stimulate muscle cells?
Describe how neurotransmitter(acetylcholine) is released and what causes it to be released
AP is generated in the presynaptic neurone, changes in membrane potential in the presynaptic neurone causes ca2+ channels to open
Ca2+ enters presynaptic neurone and causes vesicles to fuse with the membrane
acetylcholine is released into synaptic cleft
where are nicotinic acetylcholine receptors located
motor end plate is on surface of muscle cell contain nicotinic acetylcholine receptor
