Q

How to use N.D as an approximation of B.D?

A

Given X ~ B(n,p), (‘n’ - very large; providing probabilities becomes tedious)
Then, N.D can be used to find approximate values for Binomial probabilities.

In practice;
-‘n’ is large. (Ex; ‘n’ is greater than 55)
-‘np’ is greater than 5 or ‘nq’ is greater than 5.

Then, X~B(n,p) can be approximated to X~N(np,npq). (Use them as M and S.D)

Note; To approximate the D.R.V to a C.R.V, a Continuity Correction should be made.

Q

How to use N.D as an approximation of P.D?

A

X~Po(S)
S is greater than 15; Then X approximates and follows a N.D with Mean Lambda and Variance Lambda.

That is;
X~N(S,S)
After adjusting the Lambda to the question.
Note; A Continuity Correction must be done.
