Composition
Armies still included cavalry and infantry. Twice as many infantry were used than cavalry

Battle field roles
Cavalry were used in scuffles and were no longer the decisive factor in winning a battle.
It harassed the enemy with pistols . Dragoons completely replaced the mounted archer .
Infantry became dominant because musketeers gradually replaced archers and pikemen increasingly fought in large squares.
Standing armies
A permeant army . Ensured that the soldiers were well trained and gave Rulers more authority.
Before the english civil war a standing army had not been achieved . Parliament before this time saw a standing army as too expensive and gave the king too much power but during the war they raised their own to combat the royalists
Strategies and tactics
Pikemen could stop a cavalry charge . By 16 pikemen squares were integrated with musketeers
