Context And State Dependent Cues Flashcards
0
Q
Context dependent cues
A
- our memory about the context in which information was learnt when remembering information
- no conscious effort
1
Q
Encoding specificity principle
A
The closer the retrieval cues are to original leaning conditions, the more likely it is that information will be recalled
2
Q
Effect of context on memory
A
Occurs through use of contextual cues to improve retrieval
3
Q
What are contextual cues?
A
Environmental conditions present at retrieval that match those experienced during learning
E.g. sight, sound, smell, feel, temperature etc.
4
Q
State dependent cues
A
Concerned with physiological or emotional state of a person at the time of encoding information
Experience when a person js in a particular mood is more likely to be remembered when they are in that mood again
