Containment COPY Flashcards
What is the function of the containment system?
Provides biological shielding for personnel protection during normal and accident conditions.
Limits the release of radioactive fission products to the environment under those conditions that would result from the largest credible energy release following a LOCA.
What is the function of the low leakage divider barrier?
separates upper from lower compartment to ensure that steam released in the lower compartment during MSLB or LOCA will pass through the ice condenser before reaching the upper compartment.
The design openings in the divider barrier during operation are refueling canal drains and CEQ fan back draft dampers.
What is the function of the refueling cavity drains?
Refueling canal drains sized to allow spray water to drain back to the recirc. sump if containment spray is actuated and minimize the amount of steam bypassing the ice condenser in an accident.
Divider barrier and personnel equipment access (between upper and lower) must be closed when greater than 200o in RCS.
What is the function of the Containment Recirculation Sump?
Designed to provide sufficient NPSH for the residual heat removal and containment spray pumps to operate in the recirculation mode.
Describe purpose and operation of the mechanical interlock that exists between the containment personnel airlock doors?
Mechanically interlocked to not allow an airlock door to be opened unless the opposite door is closed and sealed
State all signals which will initiate a Phase A containment isolation.
SI
Manual Phase A
Describe how the weld channel pressurization system is placed in service.
Verify valves open to allow air into system this is from control air.
Complete Lineup Sheet for Weld Channel Pressurization System.
Verify OPEN CA to North & South Weld Channel Przn Air Receivers Supply Valve, to pressurize the air receivers.
Valve in air to the electrical penetrations.
High flow alarm is verified cleared after low pressure
State the three functions of the containment system?
To limit the release of radioactive fission products to the environment under conditions that would result from the largest credible energy release following a loss of coolant accident.
Provide biological shielding for personnel protection during normal and accident conditions.
Provide a means of testing the leak-tightness of the containment vessel and penetrations.
