What does the Consumer Protection Act protect consumers against?
It protects the consumers from misleading claims about goods and services and from misleading or aggressive practices.
Explain three examples of misleading claims about goods and services?
A claim that a product was made in Ireland when it was not
A claim that a service is available throughout the country when it is only available in Cork.
The recommended retail price, actual price and previous prices must be truthful.

Saying a product has won an award when it has not.
A mechanic carrying out work on a car and refusing to give the car back till the money is paid.

What responsibilities does a consumer have?
The consumer must know their rights, shop around for the best price, avoid impulse buying and false economies, keep proof of purchase, read instructions and make a timely complaint.
What responsibilities does a consumer have when buying online?
The responsibilities of consumers when purchasing online are to use a trustworthy website, use a secure payment method e.g. PayPal, check delivery and postage charges, check how long it will take to be delivered and make sure if necessary you will be able to make a complaint.

Competition and Consumer Protection Comission. The CPPC inform consuners of their rights.
How does an Ombudsman help consumers?
An Ombudsman will investigtae consumers complaints if the consumer doesn’t receive full compensation.
How does the small claims court help consumers?
The small claims court settles disputes between a consumer and a retailer.
