Consumers Protection Act 2007
Protects consumers regarding misleading claims about goods, services and prices
Misleading Claim about goods
A claim that a product was made in Ireland when it was actually made in China
Misleading Claim about a service
Saying a service is available throughout the country when it’s actually only available in Dublin and Cork
Misleading Claim about prices
The RRP, previous price and actual prices must be truthful
Misleading Practices
Giving false information to a customer to deceive them e.g saying a product has won an award when it has not.
Aggressive Practices
Physical force or influence is used to force a consumer to buy a product e.g a mechanic carrying out more work than agreed on a car and then refuses to give it back until the extra money is paid
Prohibited Practices
E.g telling a customer they have won a prize and then demanding them money to claim it.
