What is a non-renewable resource
Non-Renewable Resource: Resources that are limited in supply and cannot be replaced. E.g. Fossil Fuels (Oil, Gas)
What is a renewable resource
Renewable Resources: Resources that are not limited in supply and will not run out. E.g. wind, sunlight
What is sustainability
Sustainability is the process of balancing the social(people),economic(profit) and environmental (planet) systems for the wellbeing of people now and in the future. This involves carefully managing resources.
What should consumer take into account when purchasing goods
When purchasing goods, a consumer should consider the following:
Pollution
Worker’s Rights
Scarce Resources
Animal Testing
Local Business / Support
What are the three pillars of sustainability
Three Pillars of Sustainability:
● Social - People
● Environmental - Planet
● Economic - Profit
What is an ethical consumer
● An Ethical Consumer is someone who chooses goods and services that meet their needs and that reflect their views on what is right and wrong.
How can someone become an ethical consumer
An ethical consumer should:
● Avoid goods that have a negative impact on society, animals and the environment.
● Be informed and ask questions - where was the product made, what are the working conditions?
● Engage in life-cycle thinking - this means considering the impact on the environment at each stage of product production.
● Shop locally to minimize damage to the environment from transporting products long distances
● Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
● Buy Fairtrade products where possible
What is Boycotting
Boycotting means a voluntary act of protest in which consumers refuse to buy from or deal with a particular company. This damages the reputation and sales of the business.
Give an example of boycotting
●A business has been known to exploit resources and workers when making products which then people lead this to a voluntary act of protest to damage the reputation and sales of the business
