What is the U.S. Constitution
The constitution is a document that creates our nation’s government.
What is the Bill of Rights?
They are the first ten amendments that state specific rights and freedoms.
Why were the Bill of Rights created?
The Bill of Rights was created to give specific freedoms and rights to citizens and to limit the power to the federal government.
What are the three branches of government?
legislative, judicial, executive
What was the first goal in the Preamble?
Our Founding Fathers hoped that our country would form a more perfect Union
What was the second goal in the Preamble?
establish justice
What was the third goal in the Preamble?
insure domestic Tranquility
What was the fourth goal in the Preamble?
provide for common defense
What was the fifth goal in the Preamble?
promote the general Welfare
What was the sixth goal in the Preamble?
secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity
What does the 1st Amendment state?
states the right to freedom of religion, free speech (and press) and right to assemble and right to petition government.
What does the 2nd Amendment state?
states the right to keep bear arms
What does the 3rd Amendment state?
states the right that no soldier should be quartered in any house w/o consent of the owner
What does the 4th Amendment protect you from?
protects you from illegal searches and seizures
What does the 5th Amendment protect you from?
protects you from incriminating yourself and double jeopardy
What does the 6th Amendment state?
states the right to a speedy trial, impartial jury, and a lawyer
What does the 7th Amendment state?
the right to have a trial by jury
What does the 8th Amendment protect you from?
protects you from cruel and unusual punishments
What does the 9th Amendment state?
states that citizens have more rights other than the ones enumerated in the Constitution
What does the 10th Amendment state?
states that the powers not given to the federal government, are the states powers
