Congress (role in government)
Make laws, Declare war, approve treaties, override a veto, impeach president
Judicial (role in government)
Reviews court cases, makes sure laws are constitutional, make sure laws don’t harm groups of people
Executive Branch (role in government)
Grant pardons for people that have committed crimes, appoint supreme court justices, head of the US military,pass and veto laws
Separation of Powers
Each branch of government has it’s own powers and limitations.
Popular Sovereignty
The government gets the right to rule from the consent of the people
Republicanism
The people use their power to elect representatives to be their voice.
Federalism
Power is shared and also divided between the national and state governments.
Individual Rights
The rights guaranteed to all citizens
Limited Government
The government has ONLY the power that the constitution gives it.
Checks and Balances
To prevent an abuse of power each branch has the ability to check the other branches.
