What happened prior to the Treaty of Brest Litovsk?
Lenin has promised withdrawal from WWI but the ceasefire of December 1917 fail and the German launch a new offensive in February 1917
> Petrograd is threatened to be captured by Germany
What was the effect of the Treaty?
Russia loses:
> 35% of its population
40% of its food production
90% of its coal production
Nine months of independence of the territories lost allow resistance to the Bolsheviks to grow –> Link to Civil War
