- Society develops with time like an organism
- Conservatives support gradual change and believe soceity will evolve to fit needs of the present.
- Idea of organic state links to beliefs in authority, because those in authority are there because they are society’s natural leaders.

A
- Preserves status quo (how things are) whilst ensuring conservatives remain relevant.
- One nation is an example of changing to conserve.
- Disraeli tried to make One Nation by having upper classes rule, middle classes earn and lower classes make goods.

- Role of the government should be limited, adopted this idea in the 1980s.
- Privatisation, deregulation and reducing trade union power became axioms of this kind and thinking.
