- “nobbless oblige” - the priviledged have a duty to those less fortunate
- is in part an approach taken to adapt to growing class consciosness

- promoted individualism, autonomy and merticoracy

- private property garners respect
- propoerty owners have a stake in society/ community and therefore have a desire to maintain law and order
