• enrich our lives

How can habitats be conserved by managing succession?

• many species no longer present in climax community
• habitats disappeared or outcompeted
• e.g. moorland on higher ground in UK
• burning of heather and sheep grazing prevents climax community from being reached
• if factor preventing succession is removed then ecosystems develops naturally to climax community
