Conservation Flashcards
Why do we need conservation?
-New medicines discovered in new plant species.
-Problems from climate change.
What is conservation?
Maintaining biodiversity through human action and management.
-Including sustainable development.
What is reclaimation?
Restoring damaged/destroyed ecosystems.
What is preservation?
Restricting/ banning human interference.
Why is conservation economically important?
-Reduce climate change.
-Fertilise soil.
-Purify water.
-Producing food.
Why is conservation ecologically important?
-Keeping keystone (usually predators) species from going extinct as would alter a natural environment.
How is conservation ethically important?
-All species have a right to survive and it is humans responsibility to maintain for future generations.
Why is conservation aesthetically important?
-Nature good for well-being and mental health.
What are the effects on agriculture?
-High CO2 levels so more photosynthesis but can change sea levels and rain.
-High temperatures so longer growing seasons.
-More evaporation so more rain fall.
-Species have less variation so less likely to evolve.
