consequences of youthful population* Flashcards
Gov investment in schools
the Gov will need to invest more in providing schools and teachers for young people, due to high birth rates
infant mortality rates
infant mortality rates may increase due to poor healthcare
could be increases in birth rates as more babies are being born to ensure that some survive
literacy rates
literacy rates tend to be low due to pressure and lack of availability of education services
paediatric services
more children means that the Gov needs to invest more in paediatric services (eg. maternity care)
overcrowding
increase in population could lead to overcrowding, this with poor sanitisation and lack of clean drinking water may result in high disease levels
not enough job opportunities
as young dependents become to the working population, there may not be enough job opportunities which will increase unemployment rates
however, a high working population may encourage multinational companies to invest in areas which will increase job opportunities
immigration
Gov may encourage immigration to reduce problems with overpopulation
increased pressure on farmers
as population increases, more pressure on farmers to grow more food to feed more people.
increased pressure on farmers may lead to land being farmed more intensely as they are trying to obtain as much food as they can
could cause quality of soil to deteriorate
attract multinational companies
high birth rate means larger potential workforce in future which may attract multinational companies to the country
