What is adaptive Function?
Sleep is an adaptive response to predatory risks, which increase in darkness.
what is Cognitive Function?
Focuses on sleeps importance for cognitive function and memory formation.
What are the three stages of sleep?
Stage N1, N2 and N3.
What is Stage N1?
Transitional phase occurring between wakefulness and sleep, Rates of respiration and heartbeat slow down.
what is stage N2?
The body goes into deep relaxation
what is stage N3?
Known as slow-wave sleep. Respiration and heart rate slow down further.
What is REM sleep?
Rapid eye movements, Dreams happen.
Two types of sleep apnea?
Obstructive and central
What is obstructive sleep apnea?
– airway becomes blocked and air is prevented from entering the lungs.
what is central obstructive sleep apnea?
CNS fails to initiate breaths.
What does the term somnambulism refer to?
sleep walking
what is the Wish fulfillment theory?

what is Activation synthesis hypothesis?

what is Information processing theory?
The information processing theory simplified is comparing the human brain to a computer or basic processor. It is theorized that the brain works in a set sequence, as does a computer.
Difference between Physiological dependence and psychological dependence
Physiological dependence involves changes in normal bodily functions and withdrawal upon stopping and psychological dependence is emotional need for the drug.
