Connectivity Flashcards
What are the two methods of connectivity?
Wireless and wired
Explain wired connections
Physical cables are used to transmit data between networks and computer systems. These wired connections use a wired connection protocol - most commonly Ethernet.
Give 2 examples of wired connections
Two examples of wired connections are copper cables and fibre optic cables. Copper cables may have electromagnetic interference and are slower (between 100Mbps and 1Gbps) than fibre optic cables (between 1 - 10Gbps).
What is faster? Wired or wireless?
Wired is generally faster however wireless gives the user more freedom to move around while still being connected.
Explain wireless connections
Wireless connections use no cables but require additional hardware (with both the transmitting and receiving machine requiring a wireless network adapter card).
What is the Wifi Speed?
WiFi has a speed of 54 - 108Mbps but can be affected by the computer’s distance from the wireless router and weather conditions.
