Connective tissue, blood and neurones Flashcards
LO3, LO4 and LO5
What is a FIBROBLAST?
A cell that produces connective tissue proper
What is CHONDROBLAST?
A cell that produces cartilage
What is an OSTEOBLAST?
A cell that produce bone
What is the FLUID MATRIX?
Plasma
Name the 3 formed elements of the blood?
- ERYTHROCYTES
- LEUKOCYTES
- PLATELETS
Name an anucleate blood cell
Platelet
- anucleate immune cells that aggregate to start clotting
What is an AFFERENT NEURON?
Conducts action potentials towards the CNS
What is an EFFERENT neuron?
Conducts action potentials away from the CNS
What forms the GREY MATTER?
SOMATA (cell bodies) and SYNAPSES
What forms the WHITE MATTER?
Myelinated axons
What is the role of the SUPPORT CELLS?
To support, insulate and protect the neurones. They do NOT conduct.
What are SCHWANN CELLS?
Cells that support the peripheral nerves and form the MYELIN SHEATH
What are GLIAL CELLS?
Support the neurones in the CNS
What is the name of the macrophages in the brain and spinal cord?
MICROGLIA
What is the name of the specialist cells that produce myelin around multiple neurons?
OLIGODENDROCYTES
