Connective Tissue Flashcards
Everything
Function of connective tissue
Supports and joins part of the body
What are the two groups belly like matrix is divided into
Loose or areola connective tissue and dense connective tissue
Where is areola connective tissue found and what is it’s function
Found under skin and filling spaces between organs and muscles
Function soft and supple(easily bent) which makes it a good packing tissue between organs and other tissues
Most widespread tissue in body
What are the two types of dense connective tissue
Tendons and Ligaments
What are Tendons made of and what is their function
Made of strong white fibre
They join muscle to bone and pull on bones to move
What are ligaments made of and what is their function
They are made up if a dense network of ekasruc yellow fibres
They join bone to bones
What is cartilage and what are cartilage cells called
Cartilage is a connective tissue with a rubbery matrix
Cartilage cells are called chondrocytes
Types of cartilage
Hyaline cartilage, fibrous cartilage and elastic cartilage
Where is hyaline cartilage found and what is it’s function
Found in articulating surface if bones
It reduces friction in joints and easily regenerated when worn
Where is fibrous cartilage found and what is it’s function
Found as discs between vertebrae and covering bones in joints such as knee, hip and shoulder joints
It’s an shock absorbed and prevents dislocation of joints
Where is elastic cartilage found and name its characteristic
Found in external ear and nose tip
Can bend without breaking
What is another word for rigid matrix and what is it’s definition
Called bone
It is a connective tissue with a rigid matrix
What are bone cells called
Osteocytes
Function of rigid matrix
Bone supports the body and protects the organs
Calcium and phosphate are found in the matrix and make bone very strong
Matric had fibres which make it strong but gives it elasticity
What is blood
It is a connective tissue with a liquid matrix called plasma
