Conduct in Tissue Flashcards
Everything
What is tissue
Group of cells whuch are similar because they are specialised for a particular function
Functions of conducting tissue and structure
Transport nutrients and water
Cells if conducting tissue are long thin and carry liquids up and down the plant
What does the xylem transport
Water and mineral salts from roots to rest of plant
Function of xylem
Support,strength and structure
Doesnt have cytoplasm which causes an increase in water movement
Characteristics of xylem
Consists of xylem vessels and tracheids
Both types of cells are elongated and hollow
Walls are strong due to presence if woody substance lignin
Cells are arranged end to end forming tubes making them ideal to transport water
What does the phloem transport
Transports nutrients from the leaves to the the plant
Function of phloem
Companion cell fakes control of sieve tubes
Less resistance for nutrients to move quicker
Sieve tubes has a sieve plate
Characteristics of phloem
Has sieve tubes and companion cells
Walls are thinner than that of xylem but cells are similarly arranged end to end
Responsible for transport if the products if photosynthesis e.g sugars from leaves to storage areas of plant
