Connective Tissue Flashcards
Characterized by loosely arranged fibers and abundant cells of various types
Loose connective tissue
Produces the extracellular fibers that serve a structural role in the tissue
Fibroblast
Main functional component of tendons, ligaments and aponeuroses
Dense regular connective tissue
Cordlike structure that attach muscle to bone
Tendon
Join bone to bone such as in the spinal column which requires elasticity
Ligaments
Most abundant structural component of the connective tissue
Collage fibers
These types are characterized by uninterrupted glycine-proline-hydroxyproline in their triple helixes aggregate to form 68-nm banded fibrils
Fibrillar collagens
Have interruptions in their triple helixes that provide flexibility to the molecule
Fibril-associated collagen with interrupted triple helixes(FACITs)
Forms beaded filaments
Type 6 collagen
Forms anchoring fibrils that attach the basement membrane to the ECM
Type 7 collagen
