We owe them respect because we don’t arise alone

We are born into families and societies that make our lives possible

Have unchosen obligations to them (taking care of them, respect, obedience to rules)

Not because of what they have done for me but because they are my parents etc

• No one arises alone
• Duties to them: honor, respect, obedience
• Obedience -> tempered with wisdom
