What is self efficacy?
how much belief you have in your ability to achieve goals

a general feeling of assurance that you have the ability to meet demands
What is self esteem?
how much value you think you have

their, natural innate confidence which is enduring

their level of confidence in a certain situation based on past experiences
What is the performer’s competitive orientation?
how competitive the performer is and the types of goals they have set themselves
What is self efficacy?
the amount of confidence you have in a particular situation
Which four factors does bandura suggest influence self efficacy?
- performance accomplishments
- vicarious experiences
- verbal persuasion
- emotional arousal
How does performance accomplishments influence self efficacy?
by reminding the performer of past success in similar situations they will have a greater belief in their own ability to succeed in that situation
How does vicarious experiences increase self efficacy?
use a role model with similar characteristics (age, gender etc) to show performer that the skill can be done by someone just like them
How can a performer control emotional arousal in order to increase self efficacy?
use of somatic and cognitive strategies to help reduce/control arousal which can lead to self efficacy increasing as they no longer feel stressed in that scenario
How does verbal persuasion influence self efficacy?
encourage the performer and tell them that you believe in them and they can succeed which will help increase self efficacy
