Conduction System Flashcards
1
Q
AUTOMATICITY:
A
Hearts ability to create an electrical impulse
2
Q
CONDUCTIVITY:
A
Heart cells receives and moves electrical impulses
3
Q
EXCITABILITY:
A
Hearts ability to respond to impulse
4
Q
DEFINE the NERVOUS SYSTEM and SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM:
A
- Nervous System : Regulates heart speed
* Sympathetic Nervous System: Increases heart rate
5
Q
SINOATRIAL NODE (SA NODE):
A
- Located in the upper right atrium that provides electrical current
- Natural Pacemaker = 60-100 impulses per min = 1 beat
6
Q
ATRIOVENTRICULAR NODE (AV NODE):
A
- Located in the bottom right atrium that allows ventracils to fill with blood and release impulses
- Serves as a BACKUP PACEMAKER when SA is damaged, (40-60 beats per min)
7
Q
BUNDLE (AV BUNDLE):
A
- Allows electrical impulses to travel to ventricles
* Goes through the interventricular septum
8
Q
PURKINJE FIBERS:
A
- Electrical pathway for the left/right ventricle to contract
- Serves as a backup pacemaker for both AV and SA
9
Q
DEPOLARIZATION :
A
The state before a contraction, when the heart is stimulated for contract
10
Q
REPOLARIZATION:
A
State of recovery when cells return to its resting state and the chambers fill with blood
11
Q
What are the types of electrical waveforms?
A
- POSITIVE = Electricity traveling towards the patient’s electrode
- NEGATIVE = Electricity traveling away from the patients electrode
- NEUTRAL = A flat line with no electrical activity, a mismomer
